the goods and we are going to let you take a profit—a reasonable profit—as your share for the work you put into it.
So you are not going to lose your plant under Direct Credits. We want you to hold it, because the workingmen could not organize and operate an industry. They haven’t been schooled or trained for that sort of work. There must be men who can manage the plant; and as owners they have had the practical experience to know how to manage it.
Therefore we are not going to take away a factory from the practical owner and put it into the hands of impractical men who don’t know how to operate it. We are not that dumb.
But we are going to stop those international financiers from making factory owners pay heavy tribute and forcing merchants to raise the prices of products so that the workingmen are robbed of four-fifths of their earnings through the process.
These international financiers, together with the peewees, are forcing the people ot tne United States to pay twenty billion dollars in annual interest.
That isn’t profit. That is TRIBUTE.
So Direct Credits for Everybody will stop the TRIBUTE but not the profit.
Profit is that part of the earnings of a concern that the owner is entitled to for the work he puts into the product.
Tribute, that defrauds people out of their earnings through interest and credit is not profit; it’s robbery.
So we are going to let the manufacturer, merchant and farmer stand up on their feet like men. They are going to take that twenty billion dollars saved from the interest swindlers each year as tribute and raise the workingmen’s purchasing power with it.
Now, workingmen, don’t you want your purchasing power raised? Well, you are never going to get it raised as long as you fight for the financier against the manufacturer. Get that straight. You are fighting for the man who skins you. You are fighting for the man who puts the manager of your factory out of business.
You are fighting the man who gives you the job to buy a home and feed your little ones so that you will lose your job and so the financiers can take your home away from you and starve your loved ones. You do it because you are double-crossed by your so-called friends —the touts of the financiers.
Then after the financiers have gotten you to help them put out of business the manufacturers, merchants and farmers, they are going to show their contempt for you by disorganizing all of your labor unions just as they have done over in Europe after they got control of everything and put in their blood-thirsty dictators.
Yes, you fight for the fellows who steal your home against the co-laborer who helps you to get it. There is no sense to that.
To do what is right, we must extirpate this infernal interest collecting swindle. Swindlers live by making workingmen fight each other. They couldn’t skin the people if they couldn’t make them fight among them-
