ther delay on our part must be considered little short of criminal negligence. Delay is jeopardizing the best interest of our people, and of the army and navy in particular. For every year we delay now two years will be required later to overtake the nations who now lead us, and who are increasing that lead with every setting of the sun.”
 On August 7, 1914, the New York Herald in large typed headlines said:
 “WHICHEVER SIDE CAN DRIVE ENEMY’S DIR­I­GI­BLES AND AEROPLANES FROM THE SKIES FIRST WILL HAVE TREMENDOUS AD­VAN­TAGE IS THE OPINION OF ALFRED W. LAWSON”.
 “The outcome of the great European struggle is likely to rest with the air fleets of the different countries contending, according to Alfred W Lawson, the editor of the Aircraft Magazine, who recently furnished the United States War Department with a table of figures which showed the aerial strength of every nation in the world. This is so he says, for the reason that no land or sea manoeuvres can be accomplished successfully so long as aeroplanes and air ships are able to take observations out of each of the enemys guns and report back either by wireless or by fast scout machines just what is being done.”
 In the year of 1940 the BENEFACTOR, Vol. 2, No. 14, said:
 “Military Airports with their hangars and runways should have all been built underground many years ago,” Alfred Lawson said.
 “It will be the height of mismanagement and hind-sightedness for those in charge of military plans if they do not attend to this at once.
 “Failure to plan and construct urderground airports throughout the American hemisphere now will mean quick destruction of hangars and aircraft equipment when the hordes of flying demons arrive to capture America.
 “It is criminal negligence on part of government officials trusted with the protection of the people and their properties not to prepare adequate defensive methods to save the inhabitants from being ruthlessly destroyed by bombing explosives.”
 In the 1940 BENEFACTOR, Vol. 2, No. 14, Alfred Lawson also said:
 “So, if in the future, Europe and Asia combine to send millions of wrecking machines overhead to either enslave or annihilate the American people, we should not just match them at their own bloody game, we must be ready to stop them before they can get anywhere near the Western Hemisphere.
 “Therefore magnitudinous defenders, such as mankind has never known before, must be erected to engulf these demons and force them to destroy themselves before they can reach our shores or harm one of our innocent children.
 “However, such stupendous contrivances will take considerable time to make ready and will require a large number of our most progressive thinkers to do the detail designing and engineering and supervising under the direction of the natural mechanic who understands the plans.”
