worth seventy million dollars often invited me to his home. A member of that club worth no more than one or two millions was considered a piker by the financiers who controlled anywhere from fifty millions to a billion dollars worth of riches.
 Well, this seventy million dollar plutocrat that invited me to his home was more interested in my explaining, according to natural law, how a race horse could be bred that would outrun any other horse than he was to have me explain how the human race could be developed to a higher state of intelligence. In fact he said that the people of this world had no intelligence and never could be developed to have any. To him a race horse was superior to the human race.
 That was the general opinion of other financiers with whom I came into contact. They seemed to think that people whom they could swindle out of four-fifths of their earnings had less intelligence than horses.
 Those financiers could not understand why I should want to defend the rights of the people and abolish interest when it was within my ability to work with them and take away from the people a large part of the loot that comes from the interest game and use it to my own advantage.
 They told me that I was wasting my time and that it would be impossible to get the people to stand together and agree upon anything as they were always ready to sell each other out.
 But I said to them, “you are mistaken, the hope of the world lies in the people who create all of the wealth and not in the finan­ciers who have been defrauding them out of it. The people are basically honest but the financiers who have stolen their money and use it to cheat them out of four-fifths of their earnings are dishonest. They have been using the people’s money as a bait not only to rob them but to tempt them to become GOLD WORSHIPPERS INSTEAD OF GOD WORSHIPPERS. They have been able to tempt a few of the weaklings to become their touts and sell out the people, but before I get through with my work here on earth I intend to prove that the people as a whole are inclined to be honest and will stand together for that which is right if they are educated with TRUTH as its foundation and learn the principles of Direct Credits for Everybody which advocates justice for everybody that harms nobody and offers a purchasing power to everybody equal to their productive power.”
 So in the year of 1931 I decided that I would cast my lot with the people for better or worse during the rest of my life and live as a poor man without money or property.
 And now, after ten years living such a life I have not changed my mind in the least but am more willing than ever to make any personal sacrifice for the emancipation of the people, even to giving up my life for the cause if it should become necessary.
