Mentality

CHAPTER 18

ODORS

The air is both polluted and made fragrant by odors that penetrate it.

So the menorgs built olfactory organs as a part of man’s machinery to enable him to detect the life giving odors from the death giving ones.

There are gases within man’s body which the menorgs can live in themselves that would asphyxiate man if he were to inhale them.

An odor is a gaseous substance thrown out of a body and is the essence of compound decomposition.

Different animal and vegetable matters are distinguishable by the odors they throw off.

As man draws the air into his nostrils the odors are drawn along with it, and, passing through two large cavities above the mouth, which extend backward to the throat, come in contact with the olfactory organs which are operated by large numbers of menorgs who send impressions of these odors by pressure waves through mental currents to the brain.

Thus, it is brought to man’s consciousness the nature of the different odors that he comes into contact with, as well as being an aid to him in the selection of the food he eats.

The sense of smell has been cultivated to a sharper edge in wild animals than it has been in man. They utilize it to furnish the direction of both their prey and attacking enemies.

There are dogs in the world that have developed such a fine smelling apparatus that they can follow the footsteps of a man many hours afterward from the odor his body leaves behind.

There are as many kinds of odors as there are combinations of substances. The two main qualities however, come from (1) a growing body that throws out a health giving fragrance, and (2) an unhealthy or dead body that throws out a sickening, destroying substance.

The sense of smell is so closely associated with that of taste that one is led to believe sometimes that the odor is tasted.

By creating within oneself a desire for life and inhaling health giving fragrance, the olfactory organs will be developed to a higher state of usefulness that will increase man’s intelligence to a larger degree than if one makes a practice of inhaling the sickening odors that emanate from slaughter houses or sewers.

When man throws out of the orifices of his body or through the pores of his skin bad smelling odors, that is proof that he is diseased and he should take immediate steps to rectify its causes.

To anyone who wishes to enjoy perfect health, I would recommend following the precepts laid down in my book, MANLIFE.
